Enrico Maria Radaelli has written a brave and truthful bo-ok, which returns the reader to fundamental aspects of the Christian faith.

Drawing on the rich Magisterium of the Church, he confronts the damage done to Catholic teaching by the “woo-den language” [in reference to the definition of the p. 104, ndt] and clumsy secular concepts that entered in the wake of Vatican II.

As he poignantly argues, beauty in all its forms (not least beauty of language) is not distinct from truth but bound to truth by an “ultrarelation”.

At the deep metaphysical level truth and beauty are identical, though revealed in separate ways. Radaelli interestingly connects the relation between truth and beauty with that between Logos and Imago as Names of God, and thence to the relation between Father and Son in the Holy Trinity.

The Christian cannot be indifferent to beauty, any more than he is indifferent to the Incarnation of God (the Logos) in the world of human perception.

In a bold challenge to modern fashions, Radaelli goes on to argue that the true language of faith is not the “wooden language” of the new bureaucrats, but the “lingua di fuoco” which comes to us through the apostolic Tradition.

And this lingua di fuoco chooses dogma, not opinion, as its mode of teaching. Dogma is not the wooden thing that its critics pretend, but the true heart of the Church.

Dogma represents the path that truth has taken in the world of mortal things, and it is a path that reveals itself through beauty.

This book should be read by all who have the teaching of the Christian faith as their concern. They will be surprised by it, but only because simple truths have now become surprising.

Enrico Maria Radaelli ha scritto un libro coraggioso e veritiero, che farà riflettere il lettore su aspetti fondamentali della fede cristiana.

Ricorrendo alla ricchezza del Magisterium della Chiesa, egli confronta il danno fatto all’insegnamento cattolico dal “linguaggio di legno” [in riferimento alla definizione data a p. 1117, ndt] e dai goffi concetti mondani che penetrarono in conseguenza del Vaticano II.

Come con commovente intensità argomenta, la bellezza in tutte le sue forme (non ultima la bellezza del linguaggio) non è distinta dalla verità, ma rimbalza alla verità attraverso una ‘ultrarelazione’.

A un livello metafisico profondo, verità e bellezza sono identiche, sebbene significative in modi diversi. Radaelli, in modo avvincente, avvicina la relazione tra verità e bellezza a quella tra Logos e Imago come Nomi di Dio, e, da qui, alla relazione tra Padre e Figlio nella santa Trinità.

Il cristiano non può rimanere indifferente alla bellezza, nel mondo dell’umana percezione,  più di quanto non possa rimanere indifferente all’Incarnazione di Dio (il Logos).

Con un’audace sfida alle mode attuali, Radaelli procede nell’argomentazione: il vero linguaggio della fede non è il “linguaggio di legno” dei nuovi burocrati, ma la “lingua di fuoco” che viene a noi attraverso la Tradizione apostolica.

E questa lingua di fuoco [in italiano nel testo, ndt], come proprio metodo d’insegnamento sceglie il dogma, non l’opinione. Il dogma non è una cosa di legno, come i suoi oppositori pretendono, ma è il verace cuore della Chiesa.

Il dogma rappresenta il sentiero che la verità ha intrapreso nel mondo delle verità che periscono, ed è un sentiero che da cima a fondo si rivela attraverso la bellezza.

Questo libro deve essere letto da tutti coloro che prendono sul serio l’insegnamento della fede cristiana che li interpella. Ne saranno sorpresi, ma solo in quanto le semplici verità, oggi, sono diventate sorprendenti [traduzione di don Leonardo Villa, NY, USA; vista e approvata dall’Autore].
